Fish and other aquatic animals in the aquarium trade suffer greatly, treated either as entertainment for children, or as household decorations. The vast majority of humans purchasing these creatures have little to no knowledge on how to properly care for them, and some don’t care enough to learn. Most species of fish are prone to dying before being purchased, their lives ended by disease in small tanks or cups. Conditions such as HLLE, ich, parasites, and fungal and bacterial infections run rampant. Marine fish are usually wild-caught, torn from a life of freedom and introduced to a life of confinement and boredom.
